Artist's Statement
My artistic process is as act of discovery, an endless
flow of responses to what happens in the moment. I like making
art because I am consumed by the creative process.
I like surprises, so I find delight in monotypes. After I set
up a printing plate, I let go of the outcome. Ceramic and clay
sculpture also offer lots of surprises. Most of my work seems
to start on its own. I've learned through experimentation.
Nature gives me inspiration, but not as a direct model. When
I see things, I try to take in their essence in form and spirit.
It gives me great pleasure when I sense these aspects in my finished
works. It is not accuracy I am after, but the nature of something,
its tendency. People seem to find beauty and delight in the things
I make. When nature is the source, it is easy to understand why
this might happen.
